Stratum

Part of a technical system, isolated at the logical level, so that it reflects an aspect

Introduction to the notion

By applying architecture rules, the information system is decomposed into three strata:

  1. A core, called the “Foundation” stratum and made up of logical constituents that have been derived from the semantic aspect.
  2. An intermediary level isolating the organizational choices, called the “Activation” stratum.
  3. A periphery that provides the entry points into the system, with a variety of workstations or other interfaces (potentially towards other systems), called the “Interaction” stratum.
